Give to BCB through your Donor-Advised Fund

Your donor-advised fund can help Kentuckians who are blind or have low vision access the tools, training, and support they need to live more independently.

At Bluegrass Council of the Blind, your generosity supports practical assistance with everyday challenges—from using a smartphone or computer to connecting with others who understand life with vision loss.

Already have a donor-advised fund? Recommend a grant to BCB through your fund provider using our tax identification number: 61-0971827.

What is a donor-advised fund?
A donor-advised fund, often called a DAF, is a charitable giving account managed by a sponsoring organization, such as a community foundation or charitable organization affiliated with a financial services company.
You contribute money or other eligible assets to the fund, then recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations over time. The sponsoring organization legally controls the funds and approves grant recommendations.
Contributions to a DAF are irrevocable and must remain dedicated to charitable purposes.

Why do donors use DAFs?
Flexible giving. You can contribute to your fund when it fits your financial plans, then recommend grants when you are ready to support the causes you care about.
Potential tax benefits. Contributions to a DAF may qualify for a charitable income tax deduction, subject to applicable rules and limits. Contributing eligible appreciated assets may also offer tax advantages.
Convenient recordkeeping. Your provider maintains records of your contributions and grant recommendations.
A lasting commitment. Depending on your provider’s policies, you may arrange recurring grants, involve family members in giving, or name charities to receive remaining funds as part of your charitable legacy.
Providers’ fees, minimum grant amounts, investment options, and policies vary. Invested funds may gain or lose value.

Frequently asked questions

Does a grant to Bluegrass Council of the Blind give me another tax deduction?
No. Any available deduction generally relates to your original contribution to the DAF. Recommending a grant from that fund to BCB does not create an additional deduction.

Can I use my DAF to purchase event tickets or auction items?
No. DAF grants cannot be used to obtain personal benefits such as event admission, meals, or auction purchases. Please contact us about another payment method for those transactions.

Do I need to open a DAF to support Bluegrass Council of the Blind?
No. You can also support BCB through our regular donation options. A DAF is one of several ways to give.

Does my grant have to arrive on DAF Day?
No. BCB welcomes support throughout the year. For DAF Day, October 8, 2026, we invite you to submit your grant recommendation by that date. Processing times vary by provider.
